The scorching sun, the heavy rains, the snowy winter, and the blooming spring, I love how nature expresses itself. Hello, I am Dana Reed from Georgia, an Ecologist by profession, an avid reader, and a volunteer outside of work. In case you are curious why I added volunteering, you should know that I’m someone who will be first in line when it comes to helping people (that’s just my NATURE, I guess).
My road towards becoming an Ecologist was super bumpy. I did not get the support I needed from my parents, as it is not the most appreciated or well-paid profession. As my dad is a doctor and my mom a professor, they had high hopes that I would get into a fancier job (as per the societal norms), but I was a disappointment. Lucky for me, I have an elder sister who supported me through the journey and stayed in my parents’ good books.

The real reason as to why I wanted to become an Ecologist was because I wanted to stay close to nature at all times. Growing up in a family where your dad rushes to the hospital at odd times, and mom is engrossed with college work, I hated chaos and overworking. The best childhood memories I have are of volunteering with my sister. I loved how nothing else mattered when I was cleaning the beach or planting a sapling; it simply felt like heaven. Nature healed the pain I did not know existed.
So, nature was therapy and happiness for me. I wanted to learn everything about the environment, its depletion as well as its restoration, and share it with others. Why? Because I want to raise awareness and reduce destruction so that the next generation can enjoy living on Earth just as I do.
Temperatures have reached alarming highs. Icebergs are melting, and nature is crying out for change.

People mostly dismiss talks related to the environment. This may be because it doesn’t fascinate them, or because they think it requires too much effort to care. That is what I want to change. Through this site, I aim to provide knowledge and awareness in simple yet effective ways, so that people feel encouraged to take small steps toward making the Earth a better place to live.
